2. Burt – At the Shenzhen airport, you meet a pretty girl in the check in line. How do you convince her to come to Beijing with you?

-          Good job, you achieved the main objectives of the speech!

-          Your movement was very natural and smooth

-          Content – Your opening was strong, really brought people into the speech.  You also had a clear description of what climbing is, a benefit of those who don’t know.

-          Your conclusion could be improved however.  It seemed to end too quickly.  It didn’t really support your arguments of why you like to climb.

Why do we learn English?

Speech Evaluation:

-          Should try to dress up when giving a speech

-          You had very good structure – the main point of this speech – why, history, statistics, conclusion

-          Your body movement was quite natural and the right amount

Improvement areas:

-          Hand movement – try to open up a bit more, bring people in

-          You paced a bit too much.  Next time, try only moving when you start a new point

-          Be careful with the hand clapping

-          Your speech had simple characters

-          Your speech didn’t have a real climax however.  Try developing the story a bit more, add more interesting facts

-          You had a bit too much descriptive content

-          Your voice was very strong – easy for everyone to understand

-          Your arm gestures were just right, not too much, not too little

-          You tend to look at the same person for a long time.  Use your eye contact to your advantage and change the subject every so often.

1. We’ll be holding an Evaluation Contest next week!  David Oliver will chair the contest.

      Charles Cao will be the speaker of the night.  We need about 10 evaluators to       participate.

      The winner will go to the District challenge in April!
