Table Topics

Contents (include topic and participant):

  1. Addy Ho: Can you tell us who your favorite singer or band is and why?
  2. Dinah Lin: You have strongly recommended Ben buy a stock.  The price of the stock has been going don sharply after Ben purchased it.  Now Ben is calling you.  What are you going to say to him?
  3. Diana Shi: You have agreed with your manager to relocate to HK for 2 years.  You are the only child in your family.  How are you going to convince your parents to support your decision?
  4. YaChan Dong: You found your roommate often gets drunk and comes home late.  You want to talk to him/her about it tonight…
  5. Ben Wu: You fly business class on a business trip.  The person sitting next to you is a very charming lady / handsome guy.  Continue the story…
  6. Chris Drumgoole: Assume you are a film star and lately you were sued by a group of consumers for representing a bad quality product.  You are now at a press conference.  What are you going to say to the public?
  7. Sally Li: You are being interviewed by CCTV 9 introducing Toastmasters to the public.  What will you say?

Prepared Speech #1

Speaker:

Kay Chen

Evaluator:

Lily Wang

Speech No. & Type:

1 – Icebreaker

Speech Title:

“My First Job”

Speech Evaluation:

-          You didn’t seem too nervous! You have a very warm smile.

-          Your opening was strong – you included questions for the audience which was a nice touch.

-          You did move a bit on stage, but it seemed unstable – you were shaking a bit sometimes.  This showed the audience you were a bit nervous at times.

-          Your eye contact was decent but needs work – you often looked above the audience members’ heads at the back of the room.  This gives the audience the impression you’re not talking to us.

-          Great job for your first speech!

Prepared Speech #2

Speaker:

Moon Mu

Evaluator:

Chris Drumgoole

Speech No. & Type:

2 – Organize Your Speech

Speech Title:

“Who Is Your Idol?”

Speech Evaluation:

-          You had a nice introduction with a story introducing your family and the history of who you’ve idolized.

-          Your introduction, however, lacked a clear statement of the point of your speech.  You’ll want to give the audience a clear reason what you are going to accomplish in your speech.

-          You had two good stories – giving two extremes of situations, however, I was left wondering whether it was good or bad to have idols, or in what ways admiring an idol were good or bad…

-          You suddenly shifted to the conclusion, and it was weak. You could develop it more by restating the points you made and then give your firm conclusion.

Prepared Speech #3

Speaker:

Candy Chu

Evaluator:

Yann

Speech No. & Type:

2 – Organize Your Speech

Speech Title:

“How to use less money to buy satisfied clothes”

Speech Evaluation:

-          You had great eye contact

-          I have noticed a great improvement in your word pronunciation; however, it seemed it declined during your speech – perhaps you got tired?

-          You had a very good use of pauses

-          Your structure was very good – great introduction.

-          Your 3 main points could have been developed a bit more – seemed you went through them a bit quickly

-          Your ending was great!
