Speech No. & Type:

1 – Icebreaker

Speech Title:

An Interview Lead Me To Toastmasters

Speech Evaluation:

-          The title was attractive, brought people in even before you started to speak.

-          Your voice was very clear and certainly loud enough

-          You seemed quite relaxed / calm

-          You had notes with you, but you didn’t use them.  Try not to bring them next time!

-          Your spoken English is very fluent – this suggests you prepared quite a bit for the speech – a positive sign for the audience

-          You need to work on your eye contact – seems you focused too much on one side of the room – remember, there’s the whole room you need to focus on as the speaker.

-          Nice job on your first speech!

Prepared Speech #2

Speech No. & Type:

5 – Your Body Speaks

Speech Title:

Storm In The Bay Of Bengal

Speech Evaluation:

You did a good job with your body movement, but there are some areas you could improve:

-          I would have liked to have seen a bit more exagurated movement at certain cases

-          For example, when you were talking about the crew running to secure the containers with the ropes, really put your body into it as if you were one of the crew members handling the ropes

-          Another example is when the waves were “violently plunging against the side of the boat and over the railing”, you could have put more upper body movement into it.

-          Your face seemed a bit tired at times, and your facial expressions suffered, i.e. when you said the crew seemed nervous, you could open the eyes wide and give an almost inquisitive or shock face.

-          Other comments, you tend to move in a circular fashion around the same spot on the stage – try to use the whole stage, especially on a speech like a body movement speech.

-          Can also step back a bit more.

Prepared Speech #3

Speaker:

Sally Li

Evaluator:

Ivana Vuckovic

Speech No. & Type:

5 – Your Body Speaks

Speech Title:

Yoga Life

Speech Evaluation:

-          You have improved greatly since she started TM

-          You controlled the stage very well – good movement around. You weren’t too close to the audience

-          Your speech was Creative – Opening was very powerful and unexpected. You used an old topic “Yoga” in a new way!

-          Your speech was Composed – Natural, passionate. Your eye contact was good, and you used the space well.

-          Your speech was Craft-ful – You presented very good and informative examples that we could relate with in our daily lives

-          Your speech was Cool!

-          You could improve your ending, however – it seemed a bit forced – try to make it a bit more natural.

Prepared Speech #4

Speaker:

Yann

Evaluator:

Sunny Lin

Speech No. & Type:

5 – Your Body Speaks

Speech Title:

The Mass Games

Speech Evaluation:

-          Your opening was excellent – brought people in easily, even though it was the last speech and getting late!

-          When you were talking about the shear size of the stadium, your eyes opened wide and gave the audience a sense of amazement

-          Your eye contact has improved – you spend a bit more time on an individual (an improvement from before) – seemed you focused just long enough on someone to make sure they were listening!

-          You move to a different spot of the stage only when you changed topic.  You might be able to add a bit more movement in next time.

-          The description you provided about the 20,000 people who had the books could have been architected differently – seems some people had difficulty in understanding – pixels/resolution – technical terms!!
