CCTMC MEETING MINUTES –NOV., 5 2015

Dear all CCTMCers,

On this cold, rainy and hazy Thursday night, we had another warm, energetic and colorful meeting. Thank you all for your fantastic performance!

This week, we kicked off the series of "Welcome Back former CCTMCers". In each meeting forward, we will invite one distinguished former member to come back to take a guest role. Our lovely Zoe Cai came back and gave a thorough evaluation to Cathy Zhao.

Besides our former member Zoe, our beloved member Waves also came back this week. His general evaluation showed Waves' sharp observation of the whole meeting and brought an arousing end to the meeting. Though, he run late a lot, we still hesitated to cut him off.

Yann demonstrated us what is a good Ah-counter should be. Please do not feel shocked when he told you that you have 20+ ah-em/em-ah.Yann: watch your speech video, you will feel even more shocked.

Our Toastmaster Heather brought the theme Handwriting VS. Computer Keying to us. She shared the tradition in her family of practicing calligraphy, from her grandparent to her father to her. We agree that a beautiful handwriting could gain lots of face to us. Keep practicing!

In the table topic session, Dana dig deeper into this comparison, trying to lead the audience think beyond handwriting. It may mean old fashion, slow but also more emotion and clear mind. Waves, Jeri, Evita, Yann, Flora and Abi participated the session:

Waves: Always take notes in a meeting with pen and notebook for it helps you organize the input and grab the key message better.

Jeri: Note Apps on a smart phone makes taking notes much easier.

Evita: Printed documents may save face for us, but handwriting is what really gains you face. Lessons learned from signing contract in Chinese. Keep practice.

Yann: Written letter could be kept for a long term. He never printed email unless for business. Be environmentally friendly.

[Dana: words written by hands weigh much more than email, especially in the case of love letter ;)]

Flora: When the society is moving faster and faster what things do you still like to do slowly? Speak slow but work fast!
Abi: Theory says that handwriting indicates your characteristics and physical situation. It could be a very useful indicator in job interview. Abi will start using it in future!

[Go back and practice handwriting now!]

All prepared speeches are also related to some kind of COMPARISION.

Jeanie: Happiness VS. Money

Tips to have a high quality life

  • Do not compare with others
  • Money is not the NO.1 priority. Interest and enjoy the nature comes first.
  • Manage your money
  • Social volunteer work

Cathy Zhao: Step by Step VS. Shortcut

A skiing story tells us that shortcut could only bring a temporary achievement, NOT a long term success. No matter to learn English or any other skill, keeping moving forward step by step is the only way.
