| Two out of two for Lao Lu |
|
Olivier emerged victorious from the fiercely competitive club evaluation contest and Mandarin humorous speech contest held August 19 at the Zhaolong Hotel. Several guests from other Toastmasters clubs in Beijing came to witness the demonstration of CCTMC's most skilled evaluators and amusing speakers. Frenchman Olivier, also known as Lao Lu, surprised even himself with his success. After beating eight other contenders in the evaluation contest, Lao Lu made it two out of two by prevailing in the Mandarin humorous speech contest with "China, the spice of my life" (中国,我生活中的辣椒). "I just intended to participate in the spirit of competition," Olivier said after the contests. "I certainly didn't expect to win the Mandarin humorous speech contest, even though there were only three contestants. And I knew the evaluation contest would be very competitive." Graham came second in the evaluation contest, and Nathan third. Olivier will represent CCTMC at the next stage of the competitions, aiming to reach the national finals to be held in Beijing on the weekend of October 23-24. Lao Lu has also entered the club's English humorous speech contest to be held August 26. Can he make it three out of three? (See pictures from the event here .) |
