| CCTMC MEETING MINUTES – December 1, 2011 |
|
Dear Fellow TMers, Tonight’s theme is to define us. No matter if you are the 70s’, 80s’, or 90s’ person, artsy or not artsy, judging by the “quantity and quality” of laughter tonight, I am pretty sure about one thing - we are not the “Angry youth”, but rather the “happy and youthful”. I have thoroughly enjoyed the meeting led by Elyse, who led us through a pleasant journey with her amicable and relaxed style. The table topic session led by our energetic Christy attracted lots of potential members to fight for their stage time – a scene I haven’t seen for two weeks. Yes, we were excited to see you up there, Christy! Do you have the habit of delaying action when you know you should do the opposite? Procrastination takes away our energy, but Michelle has her weapons: setting up long term and short term goals, breaking a bigger goal into smaller ones and accomplish them one by one – this shall be very important sharing for most of us, and I hope people who need it most were here tonight. Michelle's words have power, because that's what she did - grabbed the opportunity of a speech and delivered it today. Talking about taking actions – Angela promised to do her number 5 speech on body language and she did it successfully. She shared her observations of contest speeches that used body language. This was the first time she moved her arms and legs on the stage - do you know how fascinating it was? This is an endeavor out of her comfortable zone that worth celebrating about! As Angela said - words have power! I feel sorry for people who were not here tonight – you missed the opportunity to hear a beautiful love story about Niu Lang and Zhi Nv. Cathy Chen used her charming voice, body gestures and beautiful words elaborated an ancient folk tale. The feeling as an audience was indescribable - it was like opening a treasure box and rediscovered a childhood toy. Another loss for people not here tonight: you missed Prof. Hale's very helpful speech on how to begin a speech. What a pitty. A speech on taking actions just came in time for our club. Have you longed to be a great speaker who can express himself with power and ease, who can influence dozens, hundreds, even millions of people – an influencer that Michelle sees herself as? Sounds like a big deal? Well, break it down into smaller steps, starting by taking a role this week and giving a speech the next week. Or as Prof. Hale put it, "a journey has a thousand steps, and you start by taking one step at a time. " That’s what I call a leader, who makes plans and takes actions. What are you waiting for? The right time, right place and right mood to do the important things? Wake up, all you have is this moment – NOW. Think again, or better yet, DO NOT THINK, take actions! |
